| Introduction From 8 to 16 February the Kombirama will be the scene of "public utility", an event which will look at independent artistic experience and non-institutional work connections, and for one week will provide a platform for the various people, collectives, groups and exhibition room projects working in Europe. "public utility" is intended to offer an overview of work in the various countries and serve to generate discussion on a range of topics which interest us in this connection. Our initial suggestions for topics are: - Critical presentations of individual projects, of the initiatives, subjects, work areas, objectives, motivations and the results achieved by the individual groups, projects and exhibition rooms. - "Lessons in the history of art", prepared by different people/groups, who are approached in advance, looking back at particular interesting points in the recent history of art (60's, 70's, 80's and 90's), reflections on the respective approaches, reinterpretation, reassessment, indicating developments. Possible topics are: situationism / actionism / flux art / mail / networking / interventions (act up, guerrilla girl etc.), context (e.g. the deconstruction of the artistic context with simulations and fakes) / investigations / etc. - Thematic blocks, input and discussion about he artistÕs view of her/himself, the role of artists, social goals/functions, relationship to the public: between being noticed and being included, solidarity and competition. - And of course social events like excursion, bar, club visits, party, group exhibition visit (already fixed a guided tour to the exhibition "art is not enough" at Shedhalle, thermal baths and what else you like. Version 1.2 of infozone online-magazine is being developed in parallel with the event "public utility", to be held on 8-16 February 1997. The objective is to document the whole project on the Internet in this way, and thus to make accessible to interested groups all the information, statements, discussions and experiences brought together specially for this event. Public utility online comprises on the one hand a record of the people, groups and projects taking part, and on the other hand contributions of material relating to the topics discussed, such as texts, statements, theses, lectures, records of discussions and a range of free contributions which may arise during the course of the week in February and shortly afterwards. The record of the invited groups and projects is being built up as soon as we get information, and can be looked at by everyone for the purpose of information and preparation. In the part relating to content, contributions on topics which in your opinion are important can already be sent in now. So send us immediately summaries of the project or projects, of the people involved, statements on content, pictures, short video sequences, information on already existing web-sites, so that we can among other things incorporate links, while creating a page (anyone who creates work in html-format himself can of course also send in completed pages). On the other hand you can send us contributions to the content of the event (e.g. texts, theses, reports of experiences etc.), which could be a topic for the discussions in February, and therefore should be offered on line for study. Einführung Vom 8. - 16. Februar findet im Kombirama "public utility" statt, eine Veranstaltung, die sich mit unabhängiger künstlerischer Praxis und nicht-institutionellen Arbeitszusammenhängen auseinandersetzt und während einer Woche für die verschiedenen, in Europa tätigen Leute, Kollektive, Gruppen und Raumprojekte eine Plattform schafft. Public utility soll einen Überblick über die Arbeit in den verschiedenen Ländern bieten und dazu dienen, eine Reihe von Themen, die uns in diesem Zusammenhang interessieren, im Gespräch zu behandeln. Erste Themenvorschläge sind: - Präsentationen einzelner Projekte, kritische Vorstellung der eigenen Ansätze, Themen, Arbeitsbereiche, Zielsetzungen, Motivationen und Ergebnisse der einzelnen eingeladenen Gruppen, Projekten und Räumen. - Kunstgeschichte Lektionen, von verschiedenen Personen/Gruppen vorbereitet, welche vorher angefragt werden. Rückblicke auf einzelne interessante Punkte in der jüngeren Kunstgeschichte (60er, 70er, 80er und 90er), Reflektion über die jeweilige Ansätze, Umdeutung, Neubewertung, Entwicklungen aufzeigen. Mögliche Themen sind: Situationismus / Aktionismus / Fluxus / Mail / Networking / Interventionen (act up, guerillia girl etc.), Kontext (z.B. die Dekonstruktion des Kunstkontext mit Simulationen und Fakes) / Recherchen / etc. - Thematische Blöcke, Input und Diskussion z.B. zum Selbstverständnis, KünstlerInnen-Rolle, gesellschaftliche Begehren/Funktionen, Verhältnis zur Öffentlichkeit: zwischen wahrgenommen werden und Vereinnahmung, Solidarität und Konkurrenz,... - Und natürlich soziale Events wie Ausflug, Bar, Clubbing, Party, gemeinsamer Ausstelllungsbesuch (eine Führung durch die Ausstellung art is not enough in der Shedhalle ist schon fix), Thermalbad, etc. Die Version 1.2 des Online-Magazins infozone entsteht parallel zur Veranstaltung public utility. Ziel ist es, das ganze Projekt auf diese Weise auf dem Internet zu dokumentieren und so die speziell zusammengetragenen Informationen, Statements, Diskussionen und Erfahrungen interessierten Kreisen zugänglich zu machen. Public utility online umfasst einerseits eine Dokumentation über die beteiligten Personen, Gruppen und Projekten andererseits inhaltliche Beiträge zu den diskutierten Themen wie Texte, Statements, Thesen, Referate, Diskussionsprotokolle und eine Reihe von freien Beiträgen, welche im Laufe der Woche im Februar und kurz danach entstehen können. Die Dokumentation über die eingeladenen Gruppen und Projekten wird laufend aufgebaut, und kann zur Information und Vorbereitung von allen eingesehen werden. Im inhaltlichen Teil können jetzt Beiträge zu Themen eingesendet werden, welche Eurer Ansicht nach wichtig sind. Was wir brauchen sind Kurzbeschreibungen der/des Projektes, der beteiligten Personen, inhaltliche Statements, Bilder, kurze Videosequenzen, Angaben zu bereits bestehenden Web-Sites, damit wir Links einbauen können u.a., um eine Seite zu gestalten (wer selber html-gestaltet, kann natürlich auch fertige Seiten schicken). Andererseits könnt ihr uns inhaltliche Beiträge (z.B. Texte, Thesen, Erfahrungsberichte etc.) zuschicken, welche Thema der Gespräche im Februar sein könnten und darum online zum Studium angeboten werden sollten. Kontakt |
